FIFTY visitors from 20 golf clubs joined in with The Vale’s popular ladies’ open greensomes involving 104 players.

Home players Terri Hawes and Mary Collier won with 42 points ahead of Jo Danks from The Herefordshire and Alex Harris from Gaudet Luce with 41.

Thornbury’s Carol Weeks and Painswick’s Kate Dennison followed on 39 with Ross-on-Wye’s Lois and Sophie Price fourth on 38 on count-back.

The Vale duos took the front and back nine prizes with Sally Smith and Sheila Inglis and Val Perfect and Sue Vincent managing 22 and 20 respectively.

Longest drives were by Sophie Price and Tina Jukes from The Worcestershire, while nearest the pin were East Devon’s Hilary Greenaway and Gosforth Park’s Becca McGowan. The day raised £387 for St Richard’s Hospice.

Jan Ledbury, Dave Millard and Steve McCullough scored 92 points to win The Vale’s Founders Trophy ahead of Mark Savage, Sandra Cornwell and Brian Bunn on 89 and Rob Millward, Ray Wileman and Sue Simpson on 85.

The Past Captains Trophy went to Ledbury for the ladies with 39 and McCullough for the men with 44.

McCullough also managed a hole-in-one.
