Heather Watson has landed a place in the Olympic tennis singles draw following the withdrawal of Ukraine's Alona Bondarenko due to injury.

British number one Watson was already due to compete in the doubles event along with Laura Robson but was also first alternate for the singles due to her current world ranking of 67.

Watson, who reached the third round of Wimbledon this year before losing to eventual finalist Agnieszka Radwanska, is the third British player in the women's singles draw along with Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong.
