PERSHORE Town manager Quentin Townsend has left the Midland League Division One club.

As reported by the Worcester News and Evesham Journal this week, the 41-year-old former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender from Worcester had been considering his position.

Pershore said Townsend, who also played for Hereford United, has left the club immediately by "mutual consent".

Townsend took charge in November 2015 after managing Southam United and steadied the ship having been the third man in the Town hot-seat that season.

Last season proved tough with third-from-bottom Pershore surviving relegation by four points.

A spike in mid-season form ensured there would be no such worries this time around but four straight defeats and 20 goals conceded in the final five games made for a disappointing finish.

Dependent on results elsewhere, Town will finish 18th or 19th and Townsend had been seeking reassurances the club wanted to push on before deciding whether to continue.

Pershore chairman Daniel Parvin said: "I personally would like to thank Quentin for his efforts particularly this season, my first as chairman, and wish him all the best for the future.

"The club will be taking this opportunity to review its current football structure and expect a great deal of interest in the vacant position once this is established.

"The club looks forward to the 2018-19 season and will make further announcements when an appointment is made."
