EVESHAM United boss Paul Collicutt reckons Saturday’s trip to Didcot Town is “probably our biggest” game of the season to date.

Home hiccups have kept clipping Robins wings just as they look to take full flight in the Southern League West promotion race with Saturday’s 5-2 defeat to Cirencester Town the latest setback.

Five of Evesham’s eight league losses have been at the Jubilee Stadium but they take an encouraging away record to Loop Meadow this weekend, home of a fellow promotion contender that has won 10 out of 15 at their headquarters.

“It is a massive game for both clubs and probably our biggest this season,” said Collicutt. “That said, they are all going to be big from here.

“We are going to a team that has one of the best home records in the division so something has to give and we will need to be right on it.

“They had a cracking result by beating Salisbury but then went and lost to Winchester. That’s the story of the season for a lot of clubs in this league and it will make for an exciting finish. There are teams in the bottom half in with a real shout of finishing in the top six."

“We have to play nine play-off contenders in the 13 games we have left between now and the end of the season.”

On his attempts to remedy the issues at home, Collicutt added: “Gerry (Oldham, assistant manager) and I have discussed it many times. We have done different things and people say about systems. Ours has worked on the road but not at our place.

“Perhaps we can try something a bit different but whatever system you play, mistakes normally cost you and that has been the problem.

“You hope players learn from it. I have yet to come across any player at any standard that does not make mistakes and I made enough in my career.

“The team that gets past those, learns from them and cuts out as many as possible ends up at the right end.

Lewis Powell looks set to miss out on Saturday and is considering an MRI scan to get to the bottom of a thigh problem. Paul Fahy could return.
