PERSHORE Town beat fellow strugglers Southam United 2-0 at the 2020SolarPV Stadium in Midland League Division One.

Gareth Evans twice went close in the opening 10 minutes with shots going past the post.

In the 12th minute, Jake Donnelly crossed from the left for Danny Ludlow, who cut in and drove a left-footed shot past the visitors’ ‘keeper from 12 yards.

Town dominated much of the match and had further close efforts with both Adam Bloore and Brett McGilligan shooting just wide.

Ludlow, unmarked at the back post, also steered an effort past the post.

Southam’s only effort of note was in the final 10 minutes when ‘keeper Andrew Yarnold saved from close range.

They were reduced to 10 men late in the match following a late and high tackle on Dane Aldington.

But the result was never in doubt and it was confirmed a couple of minutes from the end.

Substitute Jacob Snape’s shot was parried away for Aldington to tap home from close range.

Town are 15th in the league, only a couple of points behind a group of mid-order teams, having opened up a healthy gap of 11 from the relegation zone.

Town host Pelsall Villa tomorrow (7.45pm).
