BOSS John Edwards is looking forward to gauging Littleton’s revival in Saturday’s showdown with title-chasers Leicester Road.

The Ton Boys sit seventh on the back of a 12-match unbeaten run which features seven straight Midland League Division One victories.

The latest triumph came after two-and-a-half weeks of kicking their heels as goals from Michael Wright and Joe Adams sealed a 2-0 win over Chelmsley Town.

Edwards revealed a desire to hit the top six and reach the finals of two out of three cup competitions Littleton are still involved in but acknowledged this weekend represented a stern examination of their credentials.

“Leicester Road is a massive game for us and one that will be a test of how far we have progressed over the past few months,” said Edwards.

“We have some tough games coming up and this first one is a good barometer of what we’re doing, as is the cup match at Lye on Tuesday.

“I would like to think we could push for that top six. Our initial target was the top eight, then the top six and now people are talking about the top four.

“To get around that top six would be brilliant, though, especially when you consider where we came from. We will take each game as it comes but the top six and a couple of finals would be nice.”

Littleton then travel to Midland Premier outfit Lye Town for a Worcestershire Senior Urn semi-final on Tuesday (7.45).

They also have a two-legged Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup semi-final against Bewdley Town to look forward to as well as a last-eight tie against Premier Division leaders Coleshill Town in the League Cup.

“If we get through to the League Cup final we will have done really well having beaten Worcester and Bromsgrove already,” said Edwards.

“We’re looking forward to all of the cup games, they have been great for the lads and we hope to keep it going.”

On the Chelmsley win, Edwards added: “We did well to win the game because they came with a game plan to waste time and frustrate from the very first whistle.

“Having not played for a few weeks because of the weather we were understandably rusty but there were some decent performances once we got a bit of momentum behind us.

“After we got the first goal the result was never in doubt. We scored just before half-time which was the perfect time and Joe then got a wonder goal in the second half.

“A few players were out with injury and unavailability so all things considered, I was very pleased.”

George Westwood has been recalled from Redditch Borough, Matthew Chambers has been snapped up from Alcester Town with ex-Bromsgrove and Studley attacking option Will Tibbetts also set to sign.

There has been one exit as well with goalkeeper Jack Hartopp linking up with Coventry Sphinx.

“We would like to say a big thank you to Jack,” said Edwards. “He had a horrible facial injury and Brendon Bunn has done so well in the meantime that it would be harsh to drop him, he has been brilliant.

“We wish Jack well, he’s a top lad and a quality keeper.

“The squad has been stretched to the limit so we wanted to boost the numbers and George, Matt and Will are all players we know plenty about. They will add strong competition for places.”
