PERSHORE Town lifted themselves further away from the bottom of Midland League Division One with a battling 4-1 win over Coventry Copsewood on Saturday.

The hosts led on 23 minutes when Alfie Bloomer's cross found skipper Dean Waldron and his bullet header flew into the far corner of the net.

Copsewood keeper Dave O'Donnell just managed to snatch away from new signing Ollie Manoocherie after another well-placed cross from the productive Bloomer but the visitors pulled level when captain Craig Civzelis firmly headed home a corner.

Town were back in front 10 minutes into the second half when Tez Morton's quick flick sent Manoocherie clear to slide home from a narrow angle.

Home keeper Toby Wilcox was then the hero, saving a Civzelis penalty and Morton got his first goal for the club with 12 minutes to go to seal the points. Bloomer's headers saw the fourth racked up late on.

  • Town exited the Smedley Crooke Cup with a 4-2 defeat at Bilston Town Community last Wednesday.

Quentin Townsend’s men fought back from a half-time deficit but ultimately got overran as the match went on.

Steve Webb chanced his arm for Pershore but his 30-yard effort flashed past the post and Bilston took full advantage by striking in the 27th minute.

Kyle Turner twice went close to levelling before the break but Dan Getliff restored parity 10 minutes after the restart, stooping to flick home from Cam Mathewson’s cross.

Within two minutes, Aaron Xavier had picked up a half clearance and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner to turn the tide in Town’s favour.

The hosts went on the attack and although Toby Wilcox produced two fine stops, Two goals in three minutes put Bilston back in front but Pershore still refused to lie down and substitute Mitchell Butterworth almost put his name up in lights with a fine individual run and shot that just crept off target.

Try as they might, the visitors could not break through again and the decisive fourth arrived at the death.

Bilston’s goals came from Dan Elwell (2), Seegu Seebeth and substitute Ryan Williams.

  • There was more cup pain for Pershore in midweek with a 3-2 Worcester Royal Infirmary Cup defeat at home to Bewdley Town on Tuesday. Nuneaton Griff are Town's visitors in the league on Saturday (3pm).
