EVESHAM United move onto Football League opposition after starting pre-season with two testing home friendlies.

Paul Collicutt’s Robins drew 1-1 with new tenants Gloucester City before going down 3-1 to Tamworth at the Jubilee Stadium on Tuesday night.

After taking on the part-time National League South and North sides Evesham host professional outfit Cheltenham Town in the battle of the Robins on Monday (7.45pm).

United then entertain Worcester City, who have dropped into the Midland League Premier Division, in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-finals on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Darryl Knights, Reece Styche and Andy Burns scored for the visitors.

A crowd of 260 watched the weekend draw with Gloucester who will play their home games in Evesham this season.

Ex-Gloucester defender Matt Williams opened the scoring with a header from Sean Wood’s corner in the 68th minute, showing determination to hold off his marker.

But midfielder Ed Williams levelled the scores for City with an accurate finish into the bottom corner seven minutes later.

Meanwhile, Robins’ versatile defender and midfielder Nick Stanley has re-signed this season. He made 42 appearances for United in 2016-17.

In the FA Cup preliminary round Evesham travel to Staffordshire to face Newcastle Town on Saturday, August 19.

The FA Trophy preliminary round draw will see the Robins host Cirencester Town on Saturday, October 7, with the winners travelling three weeks later to Salisbury or Paulton Rovers.

In the FA Youth Cup Evesham host Eccleshall in the first qualifying round in September.
