THE nephew of former Hereford United and Cheltenham Town striker Simon Brain will get a chance to impress for Evesham United in their first pre-season friendly against Gloucester City on Saturday (2pm).

Sean Brain has previously played for Stratford Town, Rugby Town and Bromsgrove Sporting, who he joined last season.

Former javelin star James Campbell is also expected to be given a run-out by Robins boss Paul Collicutt at the Jubilee Stadium.

“I think it’s a bit too early for a match if I am honest,” said Collicutt, whose side lost to Salisbury on penalties in the Southern League Division One South and West play-off semi-finals last season.

“We have arranged quite a few pre-season matches and the goal is to make sure we are right for the opening weekend of the league season.

“There will be a good chance to look at players who are training with us and we have brought in a few new lads.

"But we will have to wait and see what happens.”

Brain is based in Evesham and both his uncle and great uncle played for United.

Former Shortwood United midfielder Nick Hancock and striker Campbell, who won a gold medal at the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games, are also set to feature.

New signings Matt Bennett, Mat Liddiard, Jordan Lymn and Nick Rhodes will all be involved for the Robins, who have confirmed the re-signing of Nick Stanley.

But forward Greg Peel and midfielder Ashley Williams are both unavailable for the visit from higher-graded Gloucester.

Collicutt said: “We have a squad of 21 or 22 and the bulk will be involved against Gloucester along with two or three trialists.

“Our pitch looks in excellent condition and it will be good to see the new lads in action.

“I heard a few whispers about James Campbell and I have invited him along to Evesham to have a look at him.

"He did well in front of goal last season, scoring 34 goals for Cheltenham-based Charlton Rovers.”
