PERSHORE Town lost 4-1 at home to Lichfield City in Midland League Division One.

The early stages were even with Dane Aldington going close with a shot just over as Town’s Reece Jacobs and Ben Lane linked well up front.

Matters changed however in the 33rd minute when Town’s keeper punched a cross onto the head of one of his own defenders with the ball rebounding into the net.

Fourth-placed Lichfield scored twice more in the next six minutes and again shortly after the break to lead 4-0.

Despite the match being beyond Town they tried to hit back.

On a different day Luke Church may have helped himself to a second-half hat-trick but chances were missed.

Lichfield’s keeper saved well late on to thwart Church and in the final minutes Will Stallard scored a consolation with a well-hit half-volley from the edge of the box.

Town dropped into the drop zone but three points separate four teams attempting to avoid the final relegation spot with Pershore having a couple of matches in hand.

Meanwhile, leaders Bromsgrove Sporting beat Cadbury Athletic 3-2 thanks to Jason Cowley, Tom Craine and Liam Spink.

Westfields suffered a 4-2 defeat at Heanor Town in the Premier Division.

They took a 13th-minute lead when Chris Ham powerfully headed home a near-post corner from Craig Jones.

Jones then lobbed agonisingly wide of the far post and was thwarted by the home keeper who also denied Ben Miller.

Nathan Benger levelled from the spot in the second half after a foul by James Febery.

Fields regained the lead when Ham chased a long through-ball and lobbed the keeper.

But Heanor equalised again through Benger and the hosts grabbed two more goals as Fields pushed forward.

The fourth-placed Hereford side, with just four league wins in the last 14 matches, host Coventry United on Wednesday (7.45pm).

Division Two leaders Droitwich Spa won 1-0 at Coton Green thanks to Louis Bridges' winner.

Spa extended their lead to four points at the top.
