CROWLE Searchers Crusaders marked their final season as juniors by lifting the Ambassador Evesham League Under 18s Cup.

In a rematch of the 2015 League Cup final won by Wychbold Juniors after extra-time and penalties, Crowle enjoyed their revenge.

But their preparations were not helped by the first-choice keeper breaking his hand in training the evening before the game at Evesham United's Jubilee Stadium.

Searchers started the stronger and their attacking finally brought dividends after 16 minutes when striker James Jones was brought down in the box and he converted the resultant penalty.

Both teams had chances to score with Wychbold finding the net only for it to be judged offside.

As the half drew to a close, Wychbold launched a sustained period of attack but Crowle held firm to end the half deservedly 1-0 ahead.

The second period saw fine attacking play from both teams with defences tested.

Wychbold found the net first with a well-worked goal on 56 minutes.

But Crowle quickly regrouped and were rewarded with a fine move finished off by Jones on 60 minutes.

The last quarter was played at a frenetic place with both teams emptying their benches looking to gain the definitive advantage.

Both teams had numerous dead-ball chances to score from but defences held firm.

The final whistle brought relief to Crusaders and their large band of noisy supporters.

The game was played in a great spirit helped by excellent officiating.

Club chairman Adrian Coleman said: “It was a great evening showcasing two evenly-matched teams who were credits to their clubs.

"The win is a fitting end to our squad’s junior football careers after all the hard work they have put in over the last 10 years.

"They leave with our best wishes and we hope they continue playing for many years to come.”
