EVESHAM paid the price for failing to back up their openers in a six-wicket defeat at Chaddesley Corbett in Saturday's Worcestershire County League opener.

Ali Asghar (22) and Ali Shan (25) put together a 41-run stand for the first wicket but the visitors were skittled for 118.

Mohammed Sajid (23) and Waqas Ahmed (45*), who found the boundary five times, ensured Chaddesley comfortably secured the Division One win with a total of 119 for four.

Evesham host Cookley on Saturday (1pm).

Tom Walsingham took six wickets as Bredon kicked off with a home win over Bartestree & Lugwardine in Division Two.

Walsingham's return came inside eight overs for the loss of 26 runs as the visitors were restricted to 116 all out.

Martyn Draper (30), Martin Hill (16) and Walsingham (13*) contributed to a winning total of 118 inside 38 overs with Bredon hoping to build on the five-wicket success at home to Wormelow on Saturday (1pm).

Pershore's final warm-up match ahead of the new Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League season ended in a 25-run defeat to Ombersley.

Chris Miles (79) and Stephen Miles (49*) scored well but 208 for seven was not enough as Ombersley, inspired by Joshua Dell's 101 from 105 deliveries, posted 233 for seven.

First up for Pershore this term is a trip to Coventry & North Warwickshire in Division Two on Saturday (noon).
