FIFTY-three Dumbleton Cricket Club juniors have been awarded county and district places.

Fourteen girls were selected for county squads from under 11s to 17s.

The club have put a lot of effort into female cricket over the last four years.

Guy Stirling-Lee, who runs the girls' section, said: "It’s just great to see so many girls playing and enjoying the game but even better to see so many of them turning into strong cricketers and being recognised by their counties."

Of the 39 boys selected, 20 have made it into full county squads and eight have been selected for the first time.

The club are also well represented across the age groups with six to nine county or district players at almost every age group from under 11s to 17s.

Five Dumbleton juniors also received awards at the Gloucestershire Young Cricketers' end-of-season presentation.

Freddie Sharp was player of the year for Gloucestershire under 11s.

Danielle Gibson (U17), Ellie Fleck (U15), Will Gilderson (U13) and Lewis Rollinson (U10) all picked up the performance of the year award for their age group.

Peter Boorman, junior manager at Dumbleton, said: “It’s really good to see so many of our youngsters being recognised with district or county selection.

"While they’ve all worked hard to earn their places, I’m also really pleased for their coaches too because they put in so much effort to help the youngsters improve and enjoy the game.”
