DUMBLETON all-rounder Danielle Gibson has been named in the England women’s academy squad for the second successive year.

The 16-year-old Gloucestershire player is one of eight who will receive coaching and support to help them become future international cricketers.

The squad will take part in a series of camps this winter and play competitive matches during the summer.

Gibson, who attends Dean Close School in Cheltenham, was part of the KIA Super League-winning Western Storm squad and named Gloucestershire women’s bowler of the year after taking 18 wickets at an average of 11.

She was also the side’s second highest run-scorer with 334 at 30.36.

Gloucestershire Cricket Board women and girls officer Lisa Pagett, who is also Western Storm manager, said: “It is fantastic news for Danni and we are delighted she has been given this opportunity to further her development.

"She was awarded a Storm contract last year and hopefully that has given her a valuable insight into what what it takes to move to the next level.

"I hope she takes this opportunity with both hands and continues to work hard to develop her game.”
