ALEX Gidman has spelt out his frustration at missing the climax of Worcestershire’s battle to stay in Division One of the LV= County Championship.

The middle order batsman suffered a broken finger during practice ahead of the penultimate clash with Durham at the ICG Emirates.

Gidman had top-scored with an unbeaten 60 in the first innings of the previous match against Sussex at New Road.

He said: “How is the injury? It is a broken finger, a bad dislocation, perhaps worse than we thought in terms of the break when it hap - pened.

“I have another x-ray and find out the results of that and see how it has formed over a week and then an update on the progress.

“Fingers crossed, I don’t need an operation.

“It will be nice if it is in a good enough place to heal naturally but if that is not the case we will have to go under the knife and get it sorted.

“Is it a frustrating way for the season to end?

"In a way it was almost the ‘icing on the cake.’ “A number of things haven’t gone my way this season but it is what it is. Yes, getting injured is frustrating at any time but particularly when you are desperate to contribute to the team.

“It is more frustrating for sure particularly with something like a break which you can do nothing about.

“There is no quick recovery, no magic formula so when it happened it was really disappointing but I guess when it happened it was one of those things.

“That is part of sport and something I just have to come to terms with and get over as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, Joe Leach’s fine season for Worcestershire is reflected in his final position in the Professional Cricketers’ Assciation Most Valuable Player listings for the LV= County Championship.

The all-rounder finished in fifth spot after his 59 wickets and nearly 500 runs in the competition during the 2015 campaign.
