WORCESTERSHIRE paceman Charlie Morris has signed a new three-year contract and predicts a successful era lies ahead for the County if they learn from this season's experiences in Division One of the LV= County Championship.

Morris had two years remaining of his current deal but has now committed himself to New Road until the end of the 2018 campaign.

He has followed Joe Clarke, Ed Barnard, Joe Leach, Tom Fell and Brett D'Oliveira (three years), Tom Kohler-Cadmore (two years) and Ross Whiteley (four years) in signing a new contract in the last six weeks.

Morris enjoyed another successful season with the ball after taking 52 Championship wickets during the 2014 promotion campaign - his first full season of senior cricket for Worcestershire.

He ended up with 44 from 14 games in Division One - including career best match figures of 9-109 in the innings victory over Somerset at New Road.

Morris said: "The club is going in the right direction and it's great to sign for another three years. There are a lot of promising players coming through and, although it's disappointing that we've been relegated, there are many positives to take from the season.

"We've played really competitive cricket. I think we know as a team that we probably could have won a few more games from the positions we got ourselves in.

"But to get ourselves into those positions with the squad we have, just shows the direction we are going in and I think the future is really exciting.

"You don't always have a smooth path to the top. The average age of the team is very young and the experience we gained this year from playing some of the sides we have come up against, and where we've actually done well in some of those games, is invaluable.

"We've learnt a huge amount from it as players and as a team and as long as we can learn and take forward what we have learnt from this year, there is no reason why we can't be successful in the future. Everybody thinks that and no-one doubts that at all.

"You look at the performances across the board and there are some really strong players within the squad and as a team it will click and we will come back into Division One."

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "We are very excited about Charlie Morris and we have been since we saw him up at Oxford University playing against us.

"He has had another successful season and is an important member of our bowling group and a bowler we want to make sure is going to be with us for a period of time.

"He has got the ability when things are not quite right to still make contributions.

"The bowlers are very much a unit and he is an important and integral part of that and hopefully will be now for another three years."
