Karters roll up for Rissington races

MORE than 150 drivers took the circuit at Little Rissington for the third round of the Rissington Kart Club's Championship.

Due to the large number of Senior Rotax chasing the Pelican Trophy, four heats had to take place.

The first went Scott Hutchins who edged out Tewkesbury's Mat Dittmann from Tewkesbury and Richard Raymond. Heat two went to Danny Russell, heat three to James Bishop and heat four was won by Scott Hutchins who took pole position for the final.

Dittmann who started in seventh worked his way through the field to challenge but it was Hutchins who held on to take the chequered flag and record the fastest lap.

A combined grid of 125 and 250 gearbox saw some high speeds achieved and heat wins for Roy Bennett and two for Mark Powell with the former securing pole for the final.

However, due to mechanical failure he didn't start and Powell was victorious with a start to finish success with Chris Baldwin from Tewkesbury, returning to the class after a two year gap, taking second.

A larger grid of 177 Rotax entered with heat wins being recorded by Jake Oram on his first visit to the circuit and Danny Cobb.

Oram secured pole for the final after two heat wins and he enjoyed a brilliant start and kept the lead until the end. Mark Jefferies broke the 177 lap record in heat one with a time of 42.22 seconds.

An extremely healthy Junior TKM class was represented by more than 25 drivers when heat wins were recorded by Gary Henderson-Keirle and Josh Waring with Tewkesbury-based Ayrton Wynell-Mayow runner-up behind the former in the third heat.

Henderson-Keirle secured pole position for a final full of drama with many drivers spinning off as the pole man took the win ahead of Waring and Danny Keirle.
