ONE of Halifax Town's most memorable moments in the club's 96-year history came in the FA Cup when they defeated Manchester City 1-0 at The Shay in front of the Match of the Day cameras in 1980.

The competition also brought the Yorkshire club's biggest victory when they hammered West Vale Ramblers 12-0 in the first qualifying round in 1913 while they reached the fifth round in 1953 before losing out to Spurs.

The club had apply for re-election to the Football League in the 1960s but there was no way back in 1993 when Town were relegated into the Conference. Five seasons later and they were back in the Football League but became the first club to be relegated to the Conference twice in 2002.

Current manager Chris Wilder took over the club in administration with five players and a hungry cat!. Wilder is still there but mystery surrounds the whereabouts of the cat.

It's been a topsy-turvy tale under Wilder who steered Town into the Play-off Final in 2006 when they lost 3-2 to Hereford after extra-time.

However, last season saw Town escape relegation on the final day of the season and the current one has been a struggle so far as they languish 18th in the table having won just four of 17 matches although they are undefeated at home.

"It's a potential banana skin but we will give Evesham full respect," Wilder admitted yesterday morning.

"They will have a lot of committed players and we know we are going to be involved in a battle. We aren't an arrogant side - just hard working and committed. However, games start at 0-0 and outside influences - referees and injuries - can have a say in the final result."

The Town manager felt his trip south last weekend was a worthwhile exercise and admitted he was impressed by what he saw.

"Evesham's record in cup competitions this season has been superb," Wilder said. "They are strong and well organised and every 50/50 ball will be fiercely contested and they must have been going about their business the right way to have come this far."

"I feel that we have not been getting what we deserve on our travels but we are all fully aware of what lies in store with victory on Saturday," Wilder added. "The financial rew-ards of pulling out one of the big boys in the first round could change a club's future but I know that Evesham will be thinking the same."
