Robins go down as Poole hold their lead

LEADERS Poole Town ended Evesham United's unbeaten home record in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.

United trailed 3-0 early in the second-half but two goals by leading scorer Marcus Palmer set up a rousing finish.

Matt Clarke's side had the Dorset outfit defending in numbers but could not find a deserved equaliser.

The opening half went the way of the visitors who held a 2-0 lead at the break.

Adam Kelly opened the scoring on 19 minutes and then Carl Preston doubled the Dolphins advantage 10 minutes before half-time.

It got worse for Evesham soon after the restart when Preston was on target again to make it 3-0.

The Robins upped the tempo and were rewarded with two goals in a six-minute spell just past the hour.

Palmer converted Roland Agbor’s knock-down and then got on the end of Gavin Hurren's through-ball to beat the advancing keeper Nick Hutchings.

United pressed to the final whistle in search of an equaliser. Henry Eze had his header disallowed for pushing and player-coach Neil MacKenzie drove inches wide with Hutchings beaten in stoppage time.

Evesham: Coleman, Kolonji, Hyde (Osbourne 45), Eze, Hurren, Warmer, Downing, Hicks (Mackenzie 52), Palmer, Agbor, Tullock (Williams 61). Subs not used: Connor, Meredith.

Attendance: 374.
