Harvington go up as Venter on form
12:10pm Friday 7th September 2012 in Sport
HARVINGTON secured promotion from Worcestershire League Division Three with a 50-run victory at Chaddesley Corbett.
After being dismissed for 123, the visitors crumbled to 73 all out, handing Harvington the points they needed to cement their place alongside Cookley in the top two with a game to spare.
Harvington skipper Simon Price won the toss and opted to bat on a wet wicket in a bid to secure maximum points.
Scoring proved difficult throughout the innings and any plans of declaring early were wiped out by some disciplined bowling from the hosts.
Wickets fell at regular intervals with crucial umpiring decisions also going against Harvington. Jo Venter, with 23, and Ben Hawker (20) were the top-scorers as Harvington were bowled out for 123 in the 50th over.
Chaddesley struggled from the start of their innings with opening bowlers Venter (2-25) and Hawker (1-7) combining to do the early damage.
Change seamers Lee Ross (4-13) and James Towey (2-15) continued the good work before Steve McKelvie took the final wicket with less than 10 overs left to secure 24 points.
Cookley also got maximum points and remain three points clear going into the final round of fixtures this weekend.
Harvington seconds continued their fine recent form with a five-wicket victory over Chaddesley seconds.
Chaddesley were dismissed for 140 with Dave Moulson taking 4-16, allowing Harvington’s Trevor Knowles (45) and George Whiston (42 not out) to see their side to victory.
On Sunday, Harvington comfortably beat Peopleton by eight wickets, Pete Smith top-scoring with 46 after the opposition had been skittled for 133.
