Johnson unhurt after slide off track

COLD tyres proved costly for Danny Johnson and the Evesham- based National Superstock 1000 team JD Racing.

In round nine of the championship, Johnson was relishing the meeting at one of his favourite tracks, Kent’s Brands Hatch.

Two weeks ago at Oulton Park, he felt he was not getting the best from his Kawasaki ZX-10R race bike so the team attended a test day.

He was full of confidence but soon frustrated when an electrical fault caused the machine to splutter during practice.

Having solved the issue, Johnson was ninth quickest after the first qualifying session.

Despite improving his best lap time, he finished 15th quickest and started the race on row five.

More changes boosted the bike for the morning warmup and, in the race, Johnson contested a top-eight position for eight laps after a lightening start.

But the riders slowed down after an incident on lap nine and his cooling tyres led to a slip when the speed picked up, sending him sliding across the grass.

Although unhurt with superficial damage to the bike, his race was over.
