THE first game at the new Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium for Evesham United ended in disappointment.

They lost 3-0 to Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Newport County in a friendly.

Newport lifted the Carl Lewis Memorial Trophy in memory of the late Exiles supporter.

Last season’s FA Trophy finalists took the lead on 28 minutes when Lee Minshull’s cross was converted by Jake Harris.

Marcus Palmer and Jason Wellings created half-chances for the hosts but Newport extended their lead just before the hour mark via Andy Sandell’s 25-yard freekick.

Newport took advantage of an experimental-looking Evesham side in the secondhalf with a third 18 minutes from time through Jefferson Louis. United went close when Henry Eze headed wide.

Evesham United take on Aston Villa Reserves in an extra pre-season friendly on Thursday, August 9 (7.30pm).

Evesham: Coleman, Wilson, Hyde, Rhodes, Robinson, Connor, Mackenzie, Wellings, Corbett, Tulloch, Palmer. Subs: Eze, Jones, Ardalany, Bartlam, Agbor, Osborne, Pugh, Hadley, Burness, Thomasson.

Attendance: 366.
