Broadway in narrow league KO

BROADWAY were edged out by 15 runs against Wellesbourne in the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division.

Chasing 177 to win, the hosts were all out for 161, finishing on eight points to the visitors’ 19.

Batting first after losing the toss, Wellesbourne were reduced to 77-4 with Adam Smallman claiming 3-24, before recovering to 144-4.

However, the return of Andy Beale (5-38) completely changed the outlook. His first ball bowled Shearsby for 31 and his second trapped Jackman for a duck.

Edwards (39) fell and two of the lower order also perished.

Despite securing a fourth batting point, Wellesbourne were all out for 176.

The reply saw Broadway’s dominant position soon evaporated to 67-5 and the game looked lost at 107-7.

Eventually, the hosts needing 16 to win with two overs left but Wellesbourne prevailed.
