Pershore batsmen find form in thrilling run chase

PERSHORE’S batsmen produced a fine display to beat Droitwich Spa by five wickets in Worcestershire Cricket League Division One at The Bottoms.

Skipper Chris Ridings asked the visitors to bat but his attack found it difficult as Spa reached 150-3. However, a flurry of wickets saw the visitors struggling at 161- 6 and it needed Matt Biggs (48 not out) and Mike Rogers (20) to put on a stand of 63 in their 241-8.

In reply, Pershore reached 84-2 but two quick wickets left them needing 100 runs from the last 15 overs. After Chris Ayliffe was dismissed for an impressive 76 on his home debut, Ridings (36no) and Sam Cross produced excellent running between the wickets to add 65 for the fourth wicket.

Cross’ dismissal for 27 still left 20 runs required from the last two overs but Pershore won with one ball to spare.
