Chapple top of the Bourton runners

THERE was a great turn-out by Bourton Roadrunners at the Fairford 10-kilometre race with Andy Chapple leading the way.

He ran well on the tough course, finishing in the top 10 and second veteran over 45 in 38 minutes 27 seconds.

Chapple was only three seconds ahead of women’s race winner Lucy Walmsley, whose 38.30 effort was the perfect preparation for her marathon in Wales next week. Back from long-term injury, Darren Long was first veteran over 40 in 38.52.

A major battle ensued between Tony Goodwill, Nigel Frith and Steph Lane with the former holding on to finish in 40.44.

Frith followed with a personal best in 40.53 ahead of first senior lady Lane in 40.58. Andy McCoombes in 44.10, while Ali Lane was first veteran over 50 in 46.05.

Claire Harrison did battle with Steph Holton and held on in a sprint finish by only three seconds in 46.32. Gill Carrick in 48.03 and David Payne finished in 48.57.

Norm Lane was second veteran over 65 in 51.03 followed by club-mate Lynn Hudson in 52.20.

Meanwhile, John Gibson and son Alan travelled down to London for the Bupa 10km and they finished together in one hour six minutes one second.
