Marlene is ultimate champion

ASTON Somerville ladies’ champion Marlene Billings beat her Chester Road counterpart Aileen Perks in the Worcestershire Champion of Champions competition.

She won a close first-round contest in Kidderminster by picking up a two on the last end to prosper 21-19.

Dave Humphries and Ken Bick travelled to Worcester to play James Keegan and Ian Jenkins in the Bowls England over 55s pairs.

The Aston pair overcame strong opposition who reached the national finals at Worthing last year.

Aston travelled to Ross-on- Wye for the next round of the Bowls England two rinks competition, overturned a 21-15 deficit to triumph 42-31.

Rink scores, Aston first: B Willmore, D Humphries, S Copp and K Bick 23, T Beizsley, T Vitale, R Gwyne and G Williams 13; J Heritage, G Lunk, I Sollis and D Hill 19: J Dix, R Pearce, H Ambrey and T Brock 19.

Meanwhile, Aston fell 99-82 at home to Bredon in the Vernon Turner Cup.

To finish a hectic week, they beat Littleton in a friendly 82-63.
