Elmley in Village success

ELMLEY Castle beat Cookley by 22 runs in the National Village Cricket Cup second round.

They blasted 264 from 40 overs with Simon Cooper (81), Simon Corbett (51no), Neil Cooper (34), Pete Cross (30) and Ashley Hemming (29) doing the damage.

In reply, man-of-the-match Simon Cooper claimed four vital wickets.

But the villagers are searching for their first Cotswold Hills League Premier Division win of the season after losing to Broadway.

The second-placed visitors recorded a three-wicket victory after passing the target of 114 all out.

After being asked to bat first, bottom-of-the-table Elmley slumped to 44-5 but Jamie Bailey (14) and Neil Cooper (19) added 36 runs and Will Bailey (25) ensured his side went past the 100 mark.

In reply, Broadway completed the job in the 34th over, finishing on 115-7.
