Bourton fire in four

Bourton Rovers 4, Chalford 1.

BOURTON Rovers gained only the second win of their Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two season with a convincing victory over Chalford.

On a pitch which was only just playable due to overnight frost, Rovers got off to a cracking start when Lea Oxley calmly slotted past the keeper to put the home side one up.

Kevin Hunt made it 2-0 shortly after when a long-range shot managed to beat the keeper.

Stuart Hughes should have made it 3-0 but he missed when it was easier to score.

The visitors had their moments too with Kevin Goodwill in the Rovers goal pulling off one superb save from a free-kick.

The visitors did get a goal back just before the break when a speculative shot from the corner of the box was lost in the sun by Goodwill and the ball found its way into the net. Rovers had chances early on in the second-half but failed to make them count.

But they got the third with 20 minutes left when substitutes Matt Winter and Sam Holder combined to set up Oxley, who coolly went round the keeper and slotted home for his second.

It was 4-1 moments later when a superb Hunt cross found the head of Winter and he made no mistake from six yards out.

Bourton could have scored more with Hunt and Andy Morgan going close.

But Rovers will be relieved to get another win and stay third from bottom, one place and three points below Chalford but with Bourton having four games in hand.
