Victory for Pershore

Pershore 3, Aston University 0.

PERSHORE began their belated post-Christmas BodyKraft League campaign with a solid victory over Aston University.

The game began at a high tempo with Aston just edging the attacking exchanges.

It was Pershore who had the first meaningful attempt on goal from a short corner which was well-saved after a drag-flick from Rob Handley.

The first goal game soon after when a well-worked short corner saw Graeme Rushin powerfully strike the ball home into the bottom corner.

At the start of the second-half Aston University came back hard at Pershore.

But the defensive trio of Dave Hindle, Russell Scudamore and Jamie Hughes never looked in trouble.

The students were limited to two shots dealt with easily by John Sharratt in goal for the Vale team.

A nasty head injury to Aston’s, playmaker limited the visitors attacking threat.

The second goal came from some excellent work down the left flank from Peter Powell, who found Gareth Rushton.

His accurate pass to Liam Ridings just in front of the goal saw the latter turn the ball home.

Pershore’s third goal was a superb strike from Scudamore who ventured forward to unleash a venomous shot into the roof of the net.

Pershore really should have added to their total but, with a re-arranged fixture due the following day, energies were conserved to keep up the promotion hopes.

Pershore 3, Kynoch 0.

KYNOCH were unable to raise a team for this Sunday fixture and conceded the game to Pershore late on Saturday evening.

Although Pershore were keen to play, they remain in title contention with six points from the weekend, leaving them joint second in the table. Pershore Ladies 2, Kidderminster Ladies 2.

IN their first league match back, Pershore were looking to avenge a 6-1 defeat earlier in the season. The hosts started well, putting a huge amount of pressure on the Kidderminster defence, breaking through many times only to see the ball go the wrong side of the post. After a quiet half for the Pershore defence of Sam Witheford, Kate and Jo Clark and Lindsay Jamieson, Kidderminster came out of the break with plenty of energy and took their first opportunity of the game to slip the ball past keeper Lisa Hill and into the back of the goal.

A well-worked short corner and shot from captain Sue Shepperd saw the home team back on level terms and back in the game.

After a Kidderminster strike, Kat Clasen scored the equaliser.
