Lane makes strides for Midlands in Antrim

STEPH Lane, of Bourton Roadrunners, was delighted to be selected to run for the Midlands in the County Antrim IAAF International cross-country in Northern Ireland.

Her selection was justified, as she finished 28th overall, second non-international runner and first to finish for the Midlands in a time of 21 minutes 46 seconds for the 5.6km boggy course. After running, it was straight back to the airport to enable her to compete the following day in the first of the Gloucestershire AAA Road Race Series, the Linda Franks 4.2-mile in Cheltenham.

Here she finished first lady in a time of 24.27 (eighth overall), half-a-minute quicker than last year.

The junior runners are now regularly shining for the club with Lewis Gray.

First to finish for Bourton in the Linda Frank 4.2m race in sixth place overall and first junior man. Gray’s time was 24.04, two minutes quicker than last year.

Lane was next, followed by Ewen Smith in 12th place with another superb run in 24.49.

Lane was followed by Conor Shoemark, who is improving in every race, in 25.08 and second junior man.

Beth Pudifoot finished first junior lady in 27.45, with Brittany Teague not far behind, third junior lady in 28.15.

Roadrunners have now reached the maximum 570-strong field of entrants for the High Bridge Jewllers’ Bourton-on-the-Water 10k which takes place on February 28.

The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday night at Bourton Rovers Football Club.
