Hughes scores a late consolation

Rugeley 4, Pershore 1.

PERSHORE Men’s hockey side’s poor form in the BodyKraft West Midlands Division Two continued when they were soundly beaten by previously point-free Rugeley.

The visitors once again found themselves 3-0 down at half-time after contributing to their own downfall with the failure to retain the ball and an inability to maximize their opportunities when in attack.

Pershore’s hopes of turning things round in the second-half took a turn for the worse when Rugeley scored first.

Graeme Rushin spurred the team forward and the tireless running of Joe Taylor and Graeme Handley were the only highlights in what was an otherwise shambolic performance.

Pershore’s goal came predictably down the right-flank, seeing Jamie Hughes score his third of the season which served as his side’s consolation.

Kynoch II 0, Pershore II 7.

PERSHORE’S second string got back to winning ways with the demolition of league strugglers Kynoch.

Playing an attacking formation, there was only going to be one winner in this one-sided contest.

From the opening push-back, Pershore totally dominated play with Andy Wright and Paul Grummitt orchestrating the midfield, ably assisted by Vince Crowley.

As Kynoch’s defence creaked under the pressure, Pershore were awarded a number of short-corners.

Ali Sanderson slammed the ball home for the first, with Mark Passmore also scoring from well-worked routines.

However, using the guile and experience of wingers Steve Quantrell and Scott Attwood, Kynoch’s defence was stretched to breaking point, leaving acres of space for Sanderson to score his second of the game.

At times, Pershore were a little complacent, although an assured performance by Luke Dalley meant that any counter-attacks were snuffed out.

Just before half-time, Pershore scored their fourth as Mike Doust grabbed his debut goal for the seconds.

The second-half mirrored the first with Pershore looking for further goals.

Sanderson completed his hat-trick, and the returning Tim Brown finished in style following a fine team move.

Sanderson had the final say as he blasted home his side’s fourth goal just before the final whistle.
