Edwards stung by wasp in run

STEVE Edwards, of Bourton Roadrunners, had a marathon to forget in Anglesey as he was stung in the mouth by a wasp in the closing stages.

The unwelcome visitor stung him with seven laps to go as he aimed for his 422nd sub three hours 30 minutes marathon. He was rapidly closing down the fourth and fifth runners to eventually finish sixth, just seconds behind in three hours 52 minutes and as the first Vet 45. Edwards is hoping for at least 53 seconds off his next marathon in the New Forest this weekend.

Meanwhile, Chris Hartley gave a good performance in the Woodstock 12-mile race at Blenheim Palace, where he finished 27th overall in 1.23.42. Only six days after the Robin Hood Half- Marathon, his legs were understandably feeling the miles.
