EVESHAM superbikes star Simon Andrews was in superb form as he claimed respectable fourth and sixth place finishes at round six of the ViSK British Superbikes, held in Knockhill, Scotland.
Andrews was left devastated on Friday night after an X-ray confirmed his niggly wrist injury, sustained at Snetterton two weeks ago, was a broken wrist.
The MSS Colchester Kawasaki rider had hoped to put his feet up for two weeks ahead of the next stage of the BSB season at Mallory Park in two weeks time.
After admitting he was forced to grit his teeth during race two with the pain in his wrist worsening, Andrews, who last week appeared in the World Superbikes at Donington Park, will be forced to have surgery before he takes to the track again.
He said: “I got the broken wrist at Snetterton but I didn’t find out until I got here that it was broken.
“I went in to have some physio at Knockhill and it was still tender so I had it X-rayed and it showed up that it was broken.
“So given my injury, I am pleased with my results but it is annoying because I have only just started to get over my injuries from the start of the season.
“Then I came to Scotland with a suspected niggling wrist and then find out it is broken and with it being a scaphoid it is one of the worst you can break.
“It means now that I have got to find a surgeon and it is a lot of work. “Instead of having a couple of weeks off between now and Mallory Park and a bit of a rest I have now got to get some surgery on my hand sorted.”
Meanwhile, Andrews admitted it wasn’t all doom and gloom after he moved his tally to 92 points at the weekend, leaving him sixth overall, five ahead of Karl Harris and seven behind Josh Brookes.
Andrews added: “It’s been tough, having a broken hand isn’t the easiest of things and it really affected me in the second race.
“I was pushing hard to try and catch Karl Harris because he was leading me in the championship.
“Fortunately for me, he had a problem and after he did that I just tried to make sure I maintained the lead I had and just coasted home.
“I am ahead of Karl Harris now in the championship, which is good especially with the injury.”
