Pairs battle back for draw against Henley


A REJUVENATED Evesham drew 2-2 with Henley in the Caveney Road Surfacing Summer Tennis League Premier Division.

Evesham, who sit fifth in the table, hit back from 2-0 down in the ninth round of matches.

Simon Wall and Paul Everett were beaten 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5 in a championship tie-break) by Neil Supperstone and Matthew Ross.

Dave Hubbard and Andrew Crowther were also defeated by the same pair 6-4, 7-5.

However, Hubbard and Crowther found their form to beat Ben Summers and Tom Holland 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) before Wall and Everett saw off the same pair 6-2, 6-2.

Elsewhere, Stratford extended their lead at the top to three points by beating Chipping Campden 4-0, while second placed Inkberrow defeated Whitnash 3-1.

Fourth placed Moreton-in-the-Marsh also had a good victory over Stratford ‘B’.

Leaders Stratford cruised to victory over Campden in straight sets. Callum Bailey and Rob Slatter (Stratford) beat Geoff Vaughan and Oliver Coombes (Campden) 6-0, 6-0 and then got the better of Mark Kirkbride and Mark Jepson (Campden) 6-3, 6-3.

Stratford captain Tim Page and partner Simon West also defeated Kirkbride and Jepson 6-4, 6-3 and Vaughan and Coombes 6-2, 6-3.

Inkberrow regained their composure after two recent defeats by overcoming bottom side Whitnash 3-1, but the dropped rubber allowed Stratford to pull another point clear at the top.

Division One’s top-of-the-table clash between previous leaders Alcester and Littleton saw the latter leap-frog their opponents with a 4-0 triumph.

Inkberrow and Bidford drew 2-2, allowing Claverdon to overtake Bidford with a 4-0 defeat of Pershore. FISSC saw off Studley 3-1 to leave Pershore and Studley in the relegation zone.
