Swimming

ALL club records were broken as Pershore Swimming Club had a remarkable time at the annual County Relay Championships in Wolverhampton.

The nine and 10-year-old boys’ team was made up of Drew Jones, Michael Evans, Joseph Doyle and Jack Betteridge.

Evans broke his personal best (pb) for the freestyle with 40.51 seconds, as did Jones (40.38), Doyle (40.48) and Betteridge (42.50).

The team made the final with a time of two minutes 45.05 seconds, but failed to build on this, setting 2.45.99 in the final.

In the 4x50-metre medley relay, the four boys again broke their own previous times with a total of 3.19.67 to reach the final, where they swam 3.21.24.

For the 11 and 12-year-old boys, Angus Jones set 44.25 in the backstroke leg of the 4x50m medley relay.

Angus Evans added 47.0 in the fly, while Harry Sykes (breaststroke) and Tidiahn Woodward (freestyle) helped set a time of 3.02.65.

In the final, the foursome recorded 3.07.92 to put them eighth overall. In the freestyle relay, the boys set a time of 2.41.71 in the heats but just missed out on the final.

The 11 and 12-year-old girls’ team was made up of Katie Sharratt, Rhiannon Cordiner, Ashley Gribble and Frances Turner. Again it was a tale of pb’s, with all four girls setting new best times.

For the freestyle relay, the quartet set 2.34.52 with Cordiner and Gribble again recording new pbs.

Despite being up against tough opposition from some big clubs, the nine and 10-year-old girls made it to the final in their first County Relay event.

In the medley final, Alison Seward swam to form with Laura Snape beating her heat time for another pb of 51.52.

Pugh did the same with a 38.02 for the 50m fly leg and Tessa Carr again improved with 38.37 for the freestyle leg.

Their time was 2.52.72 — just missing out on a medal placing by 0.5 of a second.
