Pershore out in front

Coombs Wood 95 all out, Pershore 96-1 UNBEATEN Pershore lead the Crusader Worcestershire League by nine points at the half-way stage.

The Bottoms’ side, yet to taste defeat in 11 matches, consolidated their position with a resounding nine-wicket success against basement boys Coombs Wood.

After winning the toss, skipper Lee Wilks asked the visitors to bat. Their top order was immediately in trouble against the pace of Sam Howell and Owen Harrison as they were reduced to 40-7 after 27 overs.

Captain James Burgoyne (39 not out) and Nigel Butterworth (12) put together a stand of 42 but, once that had been broken, the last two wickets fell with little resistance.

Coombs Wood ended up 95 all out with Henry Cooper taking four wickets and Harrison three.

Pershore had few problems in reply with Liam Ridings hitting 42 to ease his side home with 28 overs to spare.

Joe Tayor and Howell finished unbeaten on 24 and 26 respectively.
