JUNIOR Issy Green won The Vale's ladies' club championship after a 27-hole stroke-play competition in wet and blustery conditions.

In a development of the format, they played both the nine-hole par-35 Lenches and 18-hole par-74 International courses.

Green and Shona Rollins were tied on 136 gross and commenced a play-off.

Green stylishly parred the first play-off hole to take the championship title.

Chris Millward had the best nett with 115.5 ahead of Shelagh Inglis with 125.

Lady vice-captain Mary Carrington shone in the 18-hole stroke-play competition on the International course at the same event, winning the Lady Captain's Trophy for the best nett score of 80.

The Angora Cup was awarded to Clare Bunn as runner-up for 81.

Meanwhile, The Vale seniors played the first of their two nine-hole competitions involving 69 players.

Ronnie McFarlane won on the front nine with 23 points from Andrew Hawkins in second on 22 and Tony Horner on 22.

McFarlane also won the back nine with 22 from Adrian Dougan in second on 21 and Colin Edey on 21.

The captain's away day saw Keith Watson achieve a hole-in-one to delight the other 47 players.

Division One was won by Dave Webb with 39 points.

John Bragg took Division Two with 41 and also the Harry Adams Trophy for the highest number of points.

Everyone took part in the putting competition for the Golden Putter with Jim Rushworth taking the honours which he keeps for a year.

The seniors held a successful quiz night raising £640 for St Richard's Hospice.
