BOSS Paul Collicutt is not concerned by Evesham United sharing recruit Lewis Ellington’s registration.

The ex-Bristol Rovers youngster has penned terms with the Robins as well as National South outfit Chippenham Town where he spent the bulk of pre-season.

It was Chippenham boss Mark Collier who teed up Ellington’s chance to shine at the Jubilee Stadium having been unable to accommodate the frontrunner in his budget.

But while he knows how quickly things can change, Collicutt shrugged off the prospect of losing his newcomer to a club two levels higher.

“We will have to see what happens,” said Collicutt.

“You can always understand it when players want to play at the highest level they can but I get on very well with Mark and it was him who tipped me the wink.

“He could not get him in on the budget so we will see how things go but Lewis will be a good acquisition to what is a good, competitive squad.”

Ellington hit the post and scored in the first half of Friday’s 7-2 friendly win at Bishop’s Cleeve. Sean Brain bagged a hat-trick with Tyrone Tucker-Dixon, James Campbell and Steve Davies also on target.

“The highly-competitive pre-season we’ve had so far has been good for the lads,” said Collicutt.

“They have worked really hard against good opposition while the weather conditions have been far from ideal.

“Some of the 3pm kick-offs have been quite unbearable and when you’re playing against teams from a higher division you don’t see so much of the ball.

“In fairness to the lads they have put in some very good performances and I would like to think that has improved our fitness levels.

“Friday night was like a bottle of pop going off. We were fizzing and when the lid blew off we found ourselves 5-0 up at half-time.”

Evesham’s pre-season continues with a trip to Alvechurch tomorrow (Friday) before hosting Didcot Town on Wednesday (both 7.45). The last warm-up game is at Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday, August 11 (3pm).

“Places are still up for grabs,” added Collicutt.

“We have three good games between now and the season starting. This week’s training session was our first for a couple of weeks due the games we have had so that was good.”
