BOSS Paul Collicutt has another fresh-faced youngster to consider when Evesham United continue pre-season preparations at Bishop’s Cleeve tonight (7.30).

Evesham-based centre-half or full-back Cain Thomas has been nudged the way of the Robins by Cheltenham Town where he has been training and playing during pre-season, featuring in Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat at Weston-super-Mare.

Thomas, 18, spent the bulk of his formative years at Derby County and linked up with his brother, midfielder Conor Thomas, at Whaddon Road following his release.

And while Collicutt has declared himself content with United’s squad the chance to consider a player with professional credentials remains an alluring prospect.

“He is moving into a house with his brother dead opposite the ground,” said Collicutt.

“Cain has been at Derby from the age of six or seven and has just been released. Cheltenham approached me to see if I wanted to have a look so we will see what he is about.”

Meanwhile, Collicutt revealed he would attempt to thrash out a deal for ex-Bristol Rovers frontrunner Lewis Ellington following Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Bath City.

Ellington entered the action at half-time and did enough to create quite an impression on his would-be manager.

“He is one lad I would like to get on board,” Collicutt added.

“On Tuesday he did well from the bench and we discovered he is good friends with Tyrone (Tucker-Dixon) as well. If we can sort something out that will hopefully help him to settle in quickly.”

Ellington gets another chance tonight alongside Gloucester City trio Will Tunnicliff, Tucker-Dixon and Nick Humphreys. Ashley Williams and Cory Simpson are unlikely to feature against Collicutt’s former club which was relegated from the Southern League at the end of last season.

“It is always nice to go back to Cleeve and we will be going with the strongest side we can,” said Collicutt.

Evesham finish pre-season with trips to Alvechurch on Friday, August 3 (7.45) and Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday, August 11 (3pm).
