BREDON surrendered top spot in Worcestershire League Division Two after suffering an agonising home defeat to Oldswinford & Stourbridge Social.

The visitors had their captain Thomas Blunt to thank as his first innings score of 84 helped them out of a hole after Dominic Friel (7), Rauheel Iqbal (15) and Tom Slater (1) fell cheaply.

Joe Sidaway supported Blunt with 47 while Stuart Alston finished 42 not out as Oldswinford & Stourbridge Social were dismissed for 233.

In reply, Bredon lost Tim Mcvicker (15) and Tim Fenney (0) early but Charlie McVicker (49) and Martin Hill (36) got their side back on track.

Martyn Draper added 44 and the lower order made useful contributions as Bredon chased victory.

But they finished just four runs short of the win as they ended on 230-8 from their 50 overs.

Bredon who have been overtaken by Bromyard at the summit visit Bartestree & Lugwardine on Saturday (1pm).
