FEBRUARY’S sporting clay shoot at Childswickham Gun Club also incorporated the much-coveted Ray Marsden Memorial Trophy.

The long-standing club member, for many years also their chairman, is sadly missed and fondly remembered by the membership.

Despite a bitterly cold morning, members and welcomed guests turned out in the highest numbers for some considerable time.

The 40-target event was governed by the same handicap system used at the Christmas shoot devised and compiled by club king pin Allan Clayton.

The challenging layout was tackled in the usual competitive manner with the ever-present friendly rivalry to give rise to varying amounts of success.

Two stands in particular, one due to the recent acquisition of a battue trap and the other a simultaneous edge on crossing pairs of a standard and midi clay, proved to be the undoing of many.

With scores counted, handicaps included, Dave Andrews won the trophy as high gun of the day with 36/40 (47 handicap) using his 692 Beretta.

Mark Knight was second with 28/40 (45) to edge out Dave Lindup with 29/40 (40) in third.

The next shoot at Oldwell Farm will be on Sunday, March 25, when members and any accompanying guests are reminded only fibre wads will be permitted.
