BRETFORTON made the National Hockey Women's Over 45s Cup semi-finals with a 7-1 home win over Clifton Robinsons.

In 2016, the club's over 35s got through to the national final at Lee Valley Hockey Centre, London.

The veterans, coached by Julie Stowe, enjoyed a resounding win over one of the West League's premier clubs to get closer to another showpiece event.

Andrea Cole, just back from a long-term injury, got Bret off to a stunning start with a 13-minute hat-trick which included a brave, spectacular diving effort at the far post.

Deb Slatter not only set up most of Cole's goals with punishing crosses but also bagged an eye-catching brace herself.

Clifton clawed a goal back but Rosemary Logan put the icing on the cake with a well-deserved effort and Cole scored her fourth.

Bret's midfield worked tirelessly to feed the front line and assist the defence.

Their defence were put under more pressure in the second half but proved to be a well-organised unit.

Captain Cole went on to bag two for Bret seconds in a 10-0 thrashing of Lansdown fourths.

A commanding performance ensured they kept top spot in West Clubs Women's League Severn Division Three.

Lucy Cole scored the first of her four goals in the opening 10 minutes.

Player of the match Amy Ball shone with runs down the right and a hat-trick of goals.

Isla Clayton took the total into double figures.  Bretforton visit Bourton and Sherborne thirds on Saturday.

The first team beat Cheltenham thirds 4-3 at home in Severn Division One and go to Lansdown seconds on Saturday.

Severn Division Two leaders Evesham and Badsey return to action on Saturday when Stroud seconds visit.

Evesham and Badsey men lost 3-2 at Wotton-under-Edge B in GoCrea8 League The Marches Division One.

They entertain Cirencester B on Saturday.

The A team defeated Lansdown C 5-3 in The Marches Division Two and go to Cirencester C on Saturday.
