LEWIS Ridley won Evesham Golf Club's February Stableford Division One with 44 points.

He topped the group for handicaps ranging from 0 to 14 and now plays off 10 after a reduction of one.

James Attwood, whose handicap also went down to 10, was second with 40 from Russ Leeming on 36.

Division Two went to Phil Batchelor with 39 from John Stanley on 36 and Stu Berry on 33.

The competition was played in dry and sunny conditions to a shotgun start system.

It marked the final event of Brian Osbourne's two-year tenure as club captain.

The second round of the county's Kidderminster Cup competition between Evesham and Bransford was played after several delays due to the weather.

The format of scratch foursomes, particularly for players over the age of 55, tested the players with Evesham winning 2-1 to book a quarter-final with Gaudet Luce.

Steve Wood and Richard Curnock triumphed 4&2 and Boz Harris and Tony Smith 4&3 while Paul Callaghan and Alan Askew lost 3&2.

Meanwhile, Broadway's men competed in the winter league's sixth round.

In a cool start, the morning soon brightened and milder conditions were appreciated by 60 pairs for a shot-gun start.

Justin Loram and Ian Weatherhead won the greensomes contest with 41 points from Peter Miskirik and Dan Taylor who edged out club captain Bernard Donoghue and Neil Townshend on countback with both on 40.

Club president Chris Wright and Keith Williams were fourth on 39.

The penultimate round is later this month.
