TABLE Tennis England have named Littleton’s John Mckay as West Midlands regional coach of 2017.

The award recognises McKay’s efforts in coaching youngsters across the Evesham district.

In Evesham and District Association Basepoint Division One, Littleton Clubs’ Craig Witheford tops the player averages after strong victories over rivals.

Witheford registered a first victory in the league over Dave Harvey, the dominant force in recent years, over five sets as Clubs beat last season’s champions JLM Hawks 6-4.

He defeated another star player Jack Davis in straight sets.

Clubs also had a decisive 8-2 victory over championship contenders Littleton Positives as Witheford went undefeated again, beating top seed Nick Mytton 3-0.

Steve Cull and John Taylor won two each for Clubs.

Another of Witheford’s rivals, Luke Moffat of JLM Owls, lost his 100 per cent record in the league in a straight-sets defeat by Matt Hartwell as they slumped 6-4 to Wyre Elite.

Hartwell won all three matches alongside victories for Lee Wilkinson and Chris Gooderham.

Wilkinson and Hartwell took the doubles 3-1 against Moffat and Stuart Greene.

Bengeworth Purple defied their league position with a valuable 5-5 draw against JLM Owls.

Stephen Foster won three for Owls but Dougie Allan and Richard McGhee replied.

Littleton Aces triumphed 8-2 against Kington Bulldogs as Duncan Arrandale was player of the match with three victories alongside two each for Mark Dudley and Andrew Taylor.

Bulldogs’ two came from Andrew Smith and Malcolm MacFarlane.

Winless JLM Sunrisers lost 7-3 to JLM Dragonflies who enjoyed a fifth success in 12 games.

John Price was on strong form for Dragonflies with three straight-sets successes alongside Ed Sommers (2) and Mark Thomas.

Mandy Sylvester fought hard with two five-set wins while Jonathan Lyons picked up another victory.

Positives beat Dragonflies 9-1, Hawks defeated Purple 10-0 and Elite edged Littleton Aces 6-4.
