EVESHAM United’s stars of the future could bag a shot at their professional counterparts after reaching the FA Youth Cup first round proper.

The Robins overcame Bedworth United 2-0 on Monday, following on from 4-0 victories over Eccleshall and Walsall Wood in the previous rounds.

It means United’s under-18s will go into the hat with full-time academies from League One and League Two clubs such as Coventry City and Cheltenham Town.

The competition follows the FA Cup's system for byes with youth teams from clubs in the Premier League and Championship participating from the third round proper onwards.

The Bedworth match was played out in blustery conditions but Evesham managed to establish an early foothold in the game, deciding matters within the opening 10 minutes.

Sam Lucas opened the scoring before Will Middleton netted directly from a corner to double the advantage in front of more than 100 supporters gathered at the Jubilee Stadium.

The draw takes place on Friday.
