EVESHAM'S Jones Dorling Racing travelled to Oulton Park, Cheshire, for the penultimate round of the Superstock 1000 Support Series in the British Superbike Championship.

The team and rider Ashley Beech were feeling optimistic as the dedicated outfit had worked all weekend to resolve the technical issues that have plagued them over previous rounds, resulting in a virtual rebuild of the BMW 1000.

Beech finished in 11th in practice despite rain showers forcing slight changes to be made to the suspension.

Qualifying saw some quick tyre changes for most of the field as persistent rain showers and sunshine saw a wet track drying quickly.

Beech put in some fast laps and qualified in ninth position on row three of the grid for the first of the two races.

With the weather constantly changing the set-up was changed and Beech had a flying start, putting in his fastest lap at one minute 38 seconds.

But by lap three it was obvious the setting change was causing issues with the bike handling and he started to drop down the field, crossing the line in 20th position.

The team knew they had unfortunately gone the wrong way with the settings and adjusted them again ready for the warm-up session in readiness for race two.

But the challenging weather conditions worsened minutes before the race when it started to rain heavily.

With intermittent sunshine it meant the track was wet but with drying patches, forcing last-minute decisions on tyres and settings for all riders.

The team and Beech took a gamble with settings, hoping to gain an advantage over the rest of the field but with the ever-changing weather making track conditions treacherous he was struggling with grip and forced to retire on lap three.

The final round of the championship is at Brands Hatch in the middle of October where the whole team are hoping for the result they deserve after all their bad luck, frustrations and hard work.
