TWO members of Pershore Phoenix Dragon Boat Club have helped Great Britain to a quadruple medal haul on the world stage – including a first gold.

David Blackmore and Michael Dacombe were instrumental in GB claiming a gold and three bronzes at the 13th International Dragon Boat Federation's Junior and Under-24 World Nations Championship in Divonne-Les-Bains, France.

It represented the British squad's finest results at world championship level in the small boat category.

The top gong came in the 200m races with third spots achieved in the 2000m, 500m mixed and 500m open races.

Blackmore and Dacombe travel from Solihull to train and race with Pershore Phoenix and the event signalled Blackmore's first venture into international racing. Dacombe competed in Rome last year.

The under-18 squad was competitive in each race with plans already afoot for training for next year’s European Championship in Brandenburg, Germany.

Pershore Phoenix is always on the lookout for new talent and would welcome interest from youngsters aged 12 and over.
