FORMER javelin star James Campbell is a trialist for Evesham United in their first pre-season match against Gloucester City at the Jubilee Stadium on Saturday (2pm).

The 29-year-old won gold at the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games.

Campbell spent last season with Cheltenham-based Charlton Rovers and netted 34 goals - and a County Cup triumph - with the Northern Senior League Division One club.

United boss Paul Collicutt said: “I heard a few whispers about James and I have invited him along to Evesham to have a look at him. He did well in front of goal last season.”

Forward Greg Peel and midfielder Ashley Williams are both unavailable this weekend but Collicutt says “three or four trialists” will be on show for the Robins.

Meanwhile, Bradley Gray, Lewis Binns, Sam Gilder and Leroy Odeiro have all re-signed for United.

United host Tamworth in their second warm-up match next Tuesday night (7.45pm).
