PAUL King seized advantage of favourable conditions to win the prestigious Martyn Freeman Trophy at Broadway Golf Club.

King triumphed in the stableford event after scoring 43 points, while Ian McLaughlin and John Richmond were second and third respectively, on a countback, after carding 42.

Barb Buggin pipped Irene Hawkes to win the ladies’ competition after carding 36 points.

Buggin finished ahead of second-placed Hawkes on a countback.

As well as being a member at Broadway, Hawkes is also chairman of Campden Area Home Nursing, the charity chosen to benefit from all proceeds from entry and donations.

Bev Howard, with 34 points, finished in third spot.

Jackson Wojahn-Parker stormed to the junior title with an outstanding 49 points.

Keiran Nelhams, with 48 points, was second and William Jones, with 46 points, took third.

The Martyn Freeman Trophy was first introduced in 2016 in memory of the club’s professional who had died the previous year.

It attracted 84 members and £350 was raised for Campden Area Home Nursing.

Pat Righton topped the Silver Division in the Ladies England Golf Medal.

Righton returned a 72 nett, while Frances Friend brought in 73 to earn second place ahead of Debbie Donoghue in third with 74.

Alison Hewitt stormed into first place in Bronze Division with a 71 nett to leave ladies’ vice-captain Maggie McDivitt to take second with 72 and Buggin third with 73.

Jeremy Taylor made full use of his home advantage to bring in a winning 42 points in the Broadway Seniors Open.

With almost 30 clubs participating, the field was packed with 98 golfers.

David Coleman, also playing at home, earned a close second with a 41, while visitor John Collins, from Wharton Park, was third on a countback.

Vicky Watkins and Judith Noyce showed fine form to win the ladies’ Ping Fourball Betterball contest at Broadway.

They shot 44 points to seal a conclusive lead over Linda Carruthers and Liz Smith who were second with 42.

Buggin and Louise Folkes took third with 40.
