BRETFORTON, Wick and Harvington took the honours in the opening event of this year’s Wychavon Parish Games.
All 11 parishes took part in Bell Boating on the River Avon in Pershore last Saturday and the combined times of their first two races were added together.
Bretforton clinched first place in 1min 14 secs in the A final, ahead of last year’s winners, Fladbury, who finished in 1min 21 secs.
Wick won the B final, ahead of Eckington and Sedgeberrow, who finished on the same time, and Badsey.
And Harvington won the C final, ahead of Wyre Piddle and Broadway.
Ashton-under-Hill, who were third, were involved in the games for the first time for a number of years, with Inkberrow in fourth.
The next event is the ladies’ rounders at Pershore High School on Sunday, with the men’s five-a-side taking place on July 9 at Badsey.
The draw has been held for the knockout events, and draw sheets will be sent out to Parishes next month.
Anyone interested in taking part in the games should visit wychavongames.org or call Sue Collins on 01905 841269.
